This page explains the cookies on zillajschoeman.com: what they are, what they do, and how you can switch some of them off. Cookies are small files your browser keeps for a website, so it can remember things between pages.

What runs when you visit

When you first arrive, a short notice at the bottom of the screen tells you about cookies. I don’t ask you to say yes first: the cookies below work from your first visit, and you can switch the Instagram and Facebook ones off whenever you like.

Cookies the shop needs

These keep the shop working. Without them your basket and checkout can’t work, so they can’t be switched off.

Instagram and Facebook

The site uses the Meta pixel (Meta owns Instagram and Facebook). It sets a cookie called _fbp and tells Meta which pages and paintings you look at, and when an order is placed. That shows me which paintings people find through Instagram and Facebook, and helps me show my work to people who are likely to enjoy it. Meta handles this information under its own privacy policy.

This part is on unless you switch it off. To switch it off, open Preferences in the cookie notice (or the Cookie choices button at the bottom of the screen once the notice is closed), turn off “Instagram and Facebook” and press Save my choices. From then on the Meta pixel doesn’t run and the _fbp cookie isn’t set.

What isn’t on this site

There’s no Google Analytics or other visitor statistics, and no Mailchimp tracking or pop-ups.
